LaDonna Renee is a survivor of kidnapping and sexual assault that happened more than 30 years ago. After escaping, she flagged down a Good Samaritan who brought her home, where her family and law enforcement awaited. She reclaimed her voice by connecting with the Center for Community Solutions, which enabled her to share her story with crisis intervention trainees, cadets at the San Diego Regional Police Academy, students at SDSU, and at several fundraising events.
In 2022, LaDonna was honored with the Robin Ross Courage Award during the 23rd annual Tea & Tonic event at the San Diego Rady Shell. Telling her story helped her move from victimhood to becoming a thriving survivor, spreading awareness and advocating for others. The journey has been long, but LaDonna is thankful for the relationships she has built and the opportunities to support and uplift other survivors.

“Your story could be someone else’s survival guide. Your lived experiences, expertise, lessons learned, and knowledge can truly change someone else’s life. Please don’t keep it to yourself. Just by sharing, you could transform someone else’s mindset, motivation or belief in themselves, and that is a beautiful way to serve.”
